"malagueños con estrella"
Al ser las estrellas el leitmotiv escogido por el Área de Cultura del Ayuntamiento de Málaga para la Noche en Blanco de la convocatoria de 2016, CHICO REPULLO hace un juego de palabras con el título de su performance, pues el lugar escogido para el desarrollo de la misma no es otro que el prestigioso restaurante de JOSE CARLOS GARCIA, poseedor de una Estrella Michelin. Pero hablando de estrellas, CHICO REPULLO aprovecha esta convocatoria cultural para rendir merecido tributo al poeta y articulista MANUEL ALCANTARA, muy querido por todos en Málaga y que brilla con luz propia por su intensísima trayectoria profesional dentro del mundo de la cultura. Al igual que lo hiciera en la Noche en Blanco de 2013, en la que presento su obra del busto de PICASSO con una atractiva puesta en escena en la que utilizó el hielo como elemento transmisor de la escenografía, en esta ocasión, utiliza la arcilla de modelar como elemento transmisor para la puesta en escena de la presentación de su obra. En su intervención, CHICO REPULLO escenifica el modelado de un busto de la persona a la que rinde tributo. La figura va tomando forma paulatinamente a lo largo de la performance, de manera que el espectador va descubriendo poco a poco de qué personaje se trata. El acto estuvo acompañado por la presentación de un plato por parte del prestigioso chef JOSE CARLOS GARCIA.
El lugar elegido para este evento es fruto de la estrecha colaboración entre JOSE CARLOS GARCIA y CHICO REPULLO, que han sabido crear una sinergia al combinar dos disciplinas tan dispares como la escultura y la gastronomía, siendo el común denominador la creatividad.
"SLEEPLESS NIGHT" 2016 "MALAGUEÑOS WITH STARS"
As the stars the leitmotif chosen by the Department of Culture of the City of Malaga to the “NOCHE EN BLANCO” (“Sleepless Night”)2016, CHICO REPULLO makes a pun on the title of his performance, as the site chosen for the development of the it is none other than the prestigious restaurant JOSE CARLOS GARCIA, holder of a Michelin Star. But speaking of stars, CHICO REPULLO call this cultural advantage to pay deserved tribute to the poet and writer MANUEL ALCANTARA, much loved by all in Malaga and that shines through his intense professional career in the world of culture. As it did in the “NOCHE EN BLANCO” (“Sleepless Night”) 2013, in which he presented his work bust PICASSO with an attractive staging in which he used the ice as transmitting element of the set, this time, using clay modeled as transmitting element to the staging of the presentation of his work. In his performance, CHICO REPULLO staged modeling a bust of the person who pays tribute. The figure is gradually taking shape throughout the performance, so that the viewer is slowly discovering what character is. The event was accompanied by the presentation of a dish by the renowned chef Jose Carlos Garcia.
The venue for this event is the result of close collaboration between JOSE CARLOS GARCIA and CHICO REPULLO, who have managed to create a synergy by combining two disciplines as diverse as sculpture and gastronomy, the common denominator creativity.
NOCHE EN BLANCO 2015
"EN Dique seco"
Para la performance de la Noche en Blanco de 2015, el artista CHICO REPULLO pone en práctica un ejercicio de “acero-flexia”. Utilizando la técnica del plegado y ensamblaje de láminas de acero, va surgiendo paulatinamente un elemento volumétrico a partir de un soporte metálico plano.
En consonancia con la temática escogida por el área de Cultura del Ayuntamiento de Málaga para la convocatoria del 2015, el autor ha diseñado una pieza figurativa que representa una embarcación a vela. Inspirado en los majestuosos veleros de la Copa América de los años 30 del siglo pasado, CHICO REPULLO hace una interpretación vanguardista de la mítica “Clase J” cuyo casco de acero, de una sublime belleza, supuso una revolución en el ámbito de las regatas de aquella época.
Como si de un pequeño astillero se tratara, entre destellos de soldadura y chispas entrecruzadas producidas por el utillaje empleado en la ejecución de la pieza, el artista escenifica en la performance la construcción de un velero. El espectador va vislumbrando a lo largo de la intervención la evolución de la pieza náutica cuyo estilo minimalista se caracteriza por la agresividad de las aristas vivas que conforman la arboladura del navío. El diseño del casco surge a partir de la conjunción de una serie de elementos planos que dan forma a un estilizado poliedro irregular de volumen perfectamente definido, resultando especialmente radical la proa de la embarcación donde se funden el bauprés con su quilla, siendo ésta una de las principales características de la referida “Clase J”.
El resultado final es una obra escultórica de diseño contemporáneo en formato medio, eso sí, con claras reminiscencias de los veleros de antaño.
Con esta pieza, el artista CHICO REPULLO ha querido rendir merecido tributo a su amigo PEPE ALMOGUERA, desaparecido en el año 2014, uno de los más prestigiosos carpinteros de rivera y precursor del surf en la ciudad de Málaga, con quien compartió olas en el rebalaje de las playas de Pedregalejo.
“SLEEPLESS NIGHT” 2015 “IN DRY DOCK”
For the “Noche en Blanco” (“Sleepless Night”) 2015 performance, CHICO REPULLO puts into practice an exercise of something he calls: “steel-flexia”. Starting from a plane metallic base, he produces a volumetric element by using a steel-sheet folding and assembling technique.
In accordance with the theme chosen by the Culture Area of Malaga Council in 2015, the author has designed a figurative piece that represents a sail boat. Inspired in the majestic sail vessels of the 30’s American Cup, CHICO REPULLO makes an avant-garde interpretation of the mythical “J Class” whose steel hull - of a sublime beauty- represented a revolution in the regattas of those times.
As if it were a small shipyard, among welding flashes and intertwined sparkles produced by the tools and equipment employed during the making of the piece, the artist stages the building of a sail boat. Along the performance, spectators witness the evolution of this nautical piece whose minimalist style is characterized by the aggressiveness of the living edges that form the ship’s rigging. The design of the hull emerges out of the conjunction of a series of plane elements, and these elements form a slender irregular polyhedron with a perfectly defined volume. The prow of the vessel is especially radical; it is here where the bowsprit melts with its keel, being this one of the characteristics of the “J Class”
The final result is a sculptoric piece of contemporary design in a medium-sized format, with clear references to old vessels.
With this piece CHICO REPULLO pays a deserved tribute to his friend PEPE ALMOGUERA deceased in 2014; one of the most prestigious local shipwrights and surf forefather in the city of Malaga, with whom Chico shared waves in the swash of Pedregalejo Beach.
NOCHE EN BLANCO 2013
"LAS mutaCIONES dEL AGUA"
Esta performance versa sobre los tres estados del agua: sólido, líquido y gaseoso. Partiendo de un bloque de hielo, éste irá mutando ordenadamente como consecuencia de la intervención del actor, pasando de sólido a líquido mediante la fragmentación de la materia, de manera que va surgiendo sutilmente el busto de un personaje malagueño muy popular, con la paradoja de que la figura resultante conservará inalterable su estado sólido, mientras que el material residual se va evaporando paulatinamente hasta alcanzar su estado gaseoso.
En esta performance, el artista Chico Repullo, ayudado por el escultor Jesús Vez, ha querido hacer una puesta en escena para presentar el busto de Pablo Ruiz Picasso, realizado en fibra de vidrio. En la galería de fotos se aprecia el proceso de producción desde el modelado en arcilla y la confección del molde.

“SLEEPLESS NIGHT” 2013: “WATER MUTATIONS”
This performance deals with the three states of water: solid, liquid and gaseous. Starting from an ice block, this will go on mutating in this order as a consequence of the artist’s intervention; going from solid to liquid by matter fragmentation so as to obtain a bust of a very popular character from Malaga. The paradox resides in the fact that the figure will remain solid whereas the residual matter is slowly evaporating until water reaches its gaseous state.
In this performance the artist Chico Repullo, helped by sculptor Jesús Vez has staged a representation of Pablo Ruiz Picasso bust, made up in fiberglass. The productions process from clay modeling to mould making can be observed in the photo gallery.

Noche en Blanco 2012 "entreacordes"
Como avance de su nueva colección escultórica “ENTREACORDES”, el artista Chico Repullo realizará una réplica en gran formato de una guitarra cubista utilizando el acero. La puesta en escena ofrece un espectáculo sincrético en el que se fusionan escultura música y danza contemporánea en tiempo real, mediante la colaboración de los artistas Jesús Vez y Emil Sein.
En este proyecto se plantea el proceso de conceptualización de fusionar los sentidos del ser humano con los sentimientos que pueden suscitar una obra de arte.
Lo más atractivo de este tipo de actuación es el dinamismo de la creación pues el resultado final está abocado al perpetuo teatro de la contemplación. La pieza surge a partir de un plano (una plancha de acero) y evoluciona hacia un elemento tridimensional en el que los volúmenes recorren un insospechado laberinto para robarle espacio al vacío, el cual alcanza un gran protagonismo al integrarse en la obra.
SLEEPLESS NIGHT 2012 “BETWEEN CHORDS”
As a preview of his new sculptoric collections “BETWEEN CHORDS”, the artist Chico Repullo, using steel, will make a great format replica of a cubist guitar. The staging offers a syncretic real time performance where sculpture, music and contemporary dance fusion with the collaboration of artists Jesús Vez and Emil Sein.
In this project a conceptualization process is stated by merging human beings senses with those feelings that a work of art might evoke.
What is attractive in this type of acting is the creative dynamism because the final result is headed toward to perpetual contemplation. The piece emerges from a plane (a steel sheet) and evolves towards a tridimensional element in which volumes go across an unsuspected labyrinth to steal space from emptiness, this reaches to a great prominence when integrates into the piece.

NOCHE EN BLANCO 2011
"solo para TUS OJOS"
En este proyecto se plantea el proceso de conceptualización de fusionar los sentidos del ser humano con los sentimientos que pueden suscitar una obra de arte.
Para conseguir este gran reto, el artista de la performance trabaja limitado de uno de los sentidos más preciados para cualquier creador, dándose la paradoja de que cuando finaliza el acto, es el espectador quien podrá observar la obra acabada antes que el propio autor de la misma.
La pieza resultante, en definitiva, es el boceto del busto de un toro, donde el autor ha querido fusionar el mundo taurino con el mar, al surgir dicha cabeza de toro en la cresta de una ola. La pieza ha sido concluida en el taller del artista con un acabado exquisito y un aspecto cubista.
SLEEPLESS NIGHT 2011 “ONLY FOR YOUR EYES”
In this Project the conceptualization process stated deals with the fusion between the human been senses and the feelings a work of art is able to evoke.
To overcome this great challenge, the artist works during the performance limited by one of the most precious senses of any creator. It is a paradox that once the creative act is over, it is the spectator the one who contemplates the finished work before than the author himself.
The resulting piece is the outline or sketch of a bull where the author has tried to melt the bull-fighting world and the sea by making a bull’s head emerge out of a wave crest. The piece has been ended in the artist’s workshop, with an exquisite finish and a cubist aspect.

"LOS secretos DEL VACÍO"
Partiendo de la construcción de un espacio efímero compuesto por unos volúmenes blancos, prácticamente perfectos, aparentemente macizos, irrompibles, fríos tomando como premisa la unión del arte visual y escénico, se establecen diálogos entre la realidad y lo ficticio. Una escenografía viva, mutante, flexible, que permite al espectador enfrentarse a diferentes situaciones de sorpresa e incluso a diferentes estados anímicos. La atención del espectador permitirá descubrir que hay de real y de imaginario.
SLEEPLESS NIGHT 2010 “EMPTINESS SECRETS”
Starting from the construction of ephemeral spaces formed by white volumes, almost perfect, apparently solid, unbreakable; cold; and based on the premise of the union of visual and scenic art, dialogues between fact and fiction are established. A living, mutant and flexible scenography allows the spectator face different and surprising situations and even to different states of being. The spectators’ attention will allow them realize what is real and what is imaginary.
NOCHE EN BLANCO 2009 "pintaito"
Para la convocatoria de la Noche en Blanco de Málaga de 2009, los artistas Andrés Mérida y Chico Repullo se unen para realizar una intervención conjunta en la céntrica plaza malagueña de Calle la Bolsa. La performance consiste en la fusión de escultura y pintura cuya ejecución se realiza en tiempo real. A partir de un bloque macizo de espuma de poliuretano, Chico Repullo, ayudado por el escultor Jesús Vez, esculpe una figura taurina, la cual es pintada íntegramente por el pintor Andrés Mérida. La pieza, una vez terminada, es donada por los artistas a la ciudad de Málaga para que pase a formar parte de su patrimonio cultural.
SLEEPLESS NIGHT 2009 “PAINTED”
For the “Sleepless NIght 2009, the artists Andrés Mérida and Chico Repullo worked together in a joint intervention in the centric Malaga square Calle de la Bolsa. The performance resulted on the union of sculpture and painting that was created in real time. Starting with a polyurethane solid block, Chico Repullo, helped by sculptor Jesús Vez, sculpts a bull figure, which is later totally painted by Andrés Mérida. The piece, once finished was donated by the artists to Malaga’s cultural heritage.
